PokerRoom.com has been the talk of the online poker forums and players for more than a month. The rumours started that the website was going to be back up and running for players to deposit money and play real money online poker online. Now, poker players are able to sign up and log onto the website to take part in these real money games, sign up for exclusive tournaments and be part of the online community, all while accumulating points to become part of the players clubs at PokerRoom.com.

PokerRoom returns better than ever.

Players that sign up to make a deposit to PokerRoom.com are automatically eligible once one point has been earned. Players with one point are eligible to be part of the Green room, giving players access to the online community poker forums, and starting the journey to the exclusive players clubs.

Silver Status is reached when the player begins to earn points and accumulates 1,500 points every thirty days. Players that reach silver status gain exclusive opportunities to take part in poker tournaments, exchange the points that have been earned to gain credits that can be used while playing online, and having exclusive membership perks that come with the Silver Room status.

Gold Status is reserved for players taking part in games at PokerRoom.com that have earned at least 6,000 points every thirty days and therefore have gained access to the exclusive perks that come with gold memberships. Exclusive tournaments, perks throughout the game and exclusive statuses are only some of the benefits that players that have reached gold status will experience.

Players collecting player points at PokerRoom.com will also have the option to take part in real cash poker games and entries to tournaments, as the poker points can be converted into cash credits that can be used in the online casino.

It appears that one of the oldest online Texas Hold’em websites on the internet is returning to live money action. PokerRoom.com is rumored to soon be offering live online poker gaming once again. We say rumored because the “source” confirming that the site was reopening later retracted his statement.

PokerRoom May Be Back Soon

PokerFuse.com recently released an article quoting a tweet from Bwin.com SEO Manager Josef Rantamäki . He tweeted, “Wow! www.pokerroom.com will be relaunched and once again offer real money poker games.”

Soon afterwards, after PokerRoomBlog called him out on the blog, he tweeted, ” @PokerRoomBlog Sorry I just got excited when I saw the banner on your home page. Can you confirm or deny these rumors?” Of course, PokerRoomBlog neither confirmed nor denied the rumors.

This smells like Rantamäki jumped the gun on tweeting the information and this was an effort to cover up his tweet. Naturally, it didn’t work as word is now being spread around the internet of the pending reopening of the site.

PokerRoom was first opened in 1999 and became one of the first online poker site to spread real money poker games online. In the 10 years that followed, PokerRoom became one of the leaders in the industry and were among the first sites to offer a Mac Poker client for online users.

The site experienced tremendous growth post 2003 thanks in large part to the poker boom and joined the Ongame Network. Until 2006, it was among the top sites in the world until the United States passed the UIGEA, making it illegal for US banks to process online gaming transactions. Ongame then pulled out of the US market.

While still one of the major names on the Ongame Network, the real money poker site was shut down in 2009 but the domain has remained active. If true, this would bring one of the oldest sites back into the forefront of online poker.

A date for the relaunch of the site has not been announced, but a new banner on the site give players the option to sign-up for future updates.

Oct. 24 (Bloomberg) — The odds of winning the grand prize in the Powerball lottery are 1 in 195,249,054. State governments, by and large, encourage participation in this monopolistic enterprise, even though it randomly rewards a very few people with a very large amount of money for doing very little.

Oddly, most states, and the federal government, consider wagering online on a card game — in a fair fight, against other players of varying skill — a moral outrage.

A small but growing number of states are considering legalizing online poker within their borders, hoping to increase tax revenue. An intrastate approach may lead to useful innovations, but it would limit competition among gambling operators and restrict the available pool of customers for a given service to in-state players. It would also result in a crazy patchwork of regulation for an online activity that is inherently interstate.

To maximize the benefits of Internet gambling, and reduce its many dangers, federal legalization and regulation is the best option.

Current federal law is poorly conceived. In 2006 Congress ostensibly outlawed most online wagering under the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, an unclear and hurriedly assembled framework that for years left many players under the impression that online gambling was illegal but tolerated. It prevented businesses from knowingly accepting payments for “unlawful” gambling, but didn’t clearly define what was unlawful, or specifically address poker.

Then, in April 2011, the Justice Department indicted the founders of the three biggest poker sites open to U.S. players with money laundering and bank fraud, alleging that they were illegally disguising their gambling profits.

U.S. players have been abandoning Internet gambling ever since. The number of online U.S. poker accounts has declined from 2.03 million to about 490,000, according to a report prepared for Bloomberg View by H2 Gambling Capital. (It’s expected to drop further as accounts expire at the end of the year.) And the U.S. share of the global market has declined from 49 percent in 2006 to a paltry 7 percent today.

Which is a shame: The benefits of regulated online gambling, for American budgets and businesses, are substantial. Senator Jay Rockefeller, a Democrat of West Virginia, has said that regulating and taxing online gambling would yield budget savings of $41.8 billion over 10 years for the federal government, and $30 billion for states.

Not to mention that many of the offshore operators to which U.S. gamblers have turned in recent years are poorly regulated and possibly criminal — witness the saga of Full Tilt Poker, a popular gambling site that the Justice Department recently alleged was running a $440 million “global Ponzi scheme” in which owners dipped into player accounts to enrich themselves.

Far better for the industry to be legalized in the U.S. and subject to uniform regulations that would prevent cheating, ensure operators are licensed, protect minors, enforce loss limits to mitigate excessive risk-taking, and require that taxes are collected and equitably shared among the states.

This approach would allow a transparent U.S. market in online gambling to grow, subject to strict and predictable regulation. And it would recognize that the future of the gambling industry — just like the future of retail or entertainment — will be online. That’s nothing to fear. It offers far better odds for success than a lottery ticket.

Scott Montgomery experienced first hand why you must always be careful at the casino. The former November Nine member was robbed Sunday at knife point at the Bellagio and lost $2,000. Montgomery tweeted about the incident on Twitter. He said:

“Got mugged today at Bellagio. Black guy pulled a knife on me in the restroom. I gave him the $2k in my wallet and he left.”

Scott Montgomery Mugged at Bellagio

” I called security, but they took like 15 mins so they didn’t catch him. They are useless twits. Didn’t even ask me to look at camera footage”

“Security pretty much just said oh well, life sucks, have a nice day. I’m pretty annoyed.”

Montgomery isn’t the first player to get mugged. According to Poker News Daily, Greg Raymer was the victim of an attempted mugging back in 2004 at the same casino. Supposedly, Raymer fought off the would be mugger.

Montgomery was a member of the inaugural November Nine final table back in 2008 when he finished in fifth place. That year, he took home over $3.1 Million. Montgomery has had solid performances since then and just this summer took down his first ever WSOP bracelet. He won one of the numerous $1,000 buy-in events to take the bracelet.

The situation above is just another example of the potential dangers that one can face in the live poker world. While casual fans see the fame and fortune side of things on Television, they many times are not even aware of the dark side of the game. Situations such as the one the Montgomery experienced are not uncommon. Casinos many times do not do an adequate job of keeping out riff raff, especially late at night. As such, some of the larger gamblers can get targeted for theft.

Late night in a casino tends to be some of the worst times for these types of incidents. Many casinos are on reduced staff late at night and sometimes situations can arise in unattended areas. Bathrooms, deserted areas of the casino, such as the sports books, or even unpopulated areas on slot floor are all potential targets.

Some steps you can take to avoid being mugged like Montgomery include not carrying around or flashing large amounts of cash. If you have a decent amount of cash, try to keep the money in chip format until time to leave. Muggers are less likely to steal chips as they have to cash them. Also, avoid some of the above mentioned areas late at night. If you are a female and don’t fell comfortable in a situation, ask for an escort to the parking lot by a member of security. Another option may be to use Valet parking. Many valet areas are under constant supervision and are not good targets for robbery.
